“Cloud Break” and its sibling “Afterglow” have the feeling of looking through glass: things are obscured, dimmed. There’s a calmness draped over disorder. They’re bright and airy… yet underneath are darker, more saturated tones, somewhat masked by the overlay of whites, muted blues, and yellows. And then, little bits of cheerful brightness peep through: hints of orange and bright green, adding just the right amount of intensity. I love the juxtaposition of straight lines against flowing brushstrokes. The hint of … is it a horizon line? It feels like a structure slightly hidden behind the freeform areas.
