I CREATE COLORFUL ABSTRACTS EXPRESSING FREEDOM AND ESCAPISM

From My Vision to Your Interpretation

My work usually starts intuitively — with intention, but without a visual reference or planned outcome. As I create marks and shapes and add color, the pieces often become about a landscape or a memory — the freedom of being outside. I love to evoke a feeling of open spaces and adventure.

“I have the pleasure of looking at one of her pieces everytime I walk into the bedroom, and for me it represents one of the best and most beautiful things about living in Colorado. I love that I can look at a piece of artwork and make it uniquely mine, while at the same time it is unmistakably Marie Parmer.”

Regardless of the intention behind the painting, I am continually striving for pieces that represent balance, harmony, and surprise.

Ultimately, it’s about letting you find your own meaning in what you see, and allowing you to bring that meaning – and that feeling – into your home.

The Back Story

After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, I enjoyed a long and fulfilling graphic design and marketing career. It was a very satisfying and creative role: figuring out the best way to visually communicate information.

Many years ago, I rediscovered my passion for painting after years of not even picking up a paintbrush. So, when my corporate role ended unexpectedly, I felt an irresistible urge to dive headfirst into the studio – and I haven’t looked back.

This shift has been a breath of fresh air: getting away from the exacting precision of computer design and having fun making things by hand again has been incredibly fulfilling.

I delight in exploring the unknown, getting my hands dirty*, and solving new artistic challenges.
